Having regular, reliable backups are one of the basic processes anyone running a website should put in place. Whether they are running a multi-million dollar business, or a forum for their local football team supporters, it doesn't matter. So why do so many people not have
a good backup policy in place?
Well, Cpanel, the most popular administration tool for webhosting, gives a nice easy form to fill in each time you want a backup. It takes a minute or so to fill in, and then your webserver goes away and does the actual work in the background, whilst you get on with other things. And then Cpanel sends you a mail to say when it's all done.
But - Cpanel won't automate this.
The trick - as always - is remembering to do the backup on a regular basis. And if you have multiple hosting accounts, it's finding the time to do them all.
